UCI Juniors Track World Championships: Double for Alexandra Manly
The Australian national team has sent out a clear message: the pursuit is their domain. 24 hours after the junior women’s victory in the team event, Alexandra Manly added another rainbow jersey to her collection. It was Australia’s seventh individual pursuit title since 2007. Germany’s Mieke Kröger, junior World Champion in 2011, is the only young woman who has been capable of breaking their running streak. On Sunday, Manly recorded a time of 2’24”624 on the South Korean velodrome. Lisa Klein (Germany) was second in 2’27”877. Just like last year in Glasgow, another Australian claimed bronze (Lauren Perry in 2’28”543)
Men’s kilometre: Janosek on fire
Jiri Janosek will remember this summer for a long time. After his European title in Portugal last month, the Czech sprinter claimed the rainbow jersey on the track in Gwang Myeong. He won in 1’02”558, while Russia’s Alexey Nosov completed his kilometre in 1’04”005! The Malaysian Muhammad Modh Zonis took the third medal (1’04”161)
Men’s points race: the title for Gough
Second the day before in the individual pursuit, Regan Gough left his rivals with no chance in the points race. The New Zealander won the event with 42 points in front of Russia’s Nikolai Ilichev (38 points) and the American Edgar Stepanyan (32 points).
