The competition for best World Cup event was introduced this year. The ranking was established according to points awarded for different criteria. The evaluations were carried out by the Technical Delegate and the Chairman of the Commissaires Panel at each event, as well as the UCI, an athlete and a team leader who were present at all World Cup rounds.
Matane, Quebec, won the voters over with its large and enthusiastic public, its general commitment demonstrated by an extremely large team of volunteers, and a winding, technical and demanding course. The organisers, Paramanic International, have committed to staging another World Cup round next year, and will move their event to Montreal.
Merano, Italy, was the opening round of the 2013 UCI Para-cycling Road World Cup. The organisers, who hosted a round in Rome the year before, received votes for the city centre start / finish which created a warm and exciting atmosphere. The exceptional implication of the political authorities, police, army and security services also impressed the voters.
The Spanish venue, Segovia, has hosted a World Cup round every year since the series was launched in 2010 and once again this traditional venue proved popular with the athletes and teams.
UCI Para-cycling Coordinator Christophe Cheseaux said the competition for best organiser would be repeated in 2014.
“Since the launch of the UCI Para-cycling Road World Cup in 2010, more organisers have demonstrated their commitment to the discipline by hosting an event,” he said. “With this new competition, we wish to acknowledge their commitment and hard work. It will also encourage healthy competition between the different organisers.”
